Divus gadus pēc traģiskas tēva nāves autoavārijā, Emīlija kopā ar mazo brāli Navinu un māti Kārenu no lielpilsētas finansiālu apsvērumu dēļ pārvācas uz mazāku pilsēteli vien ar 28 000 iedzīvotāju, un ievācas ģimenei piederošā un drusku nolaistā mājā. Māja tomēr nav nekāda parastā un tai ir arī savi noslēpumi, no kuriem viens saistās ar vecvectēvu.

Kontrole pār notikumiem zūd brīdī, kad kāds radījums nolaupa Kārenu, un Emīlija un Navins piespiedu kārtā kļūst par varoņiem ne tikai, lai izglābtu māti, bet iespējams arī kaut kam nopietnākam pēcāk, vismaz Emīlija noteikti.

Centienos izglābt māti, Emīlija un Navins atklāj brīnumainu, paralēlu pasauli, kur par varu cīnās dažādi spēki. Par laimi, abi savos piedzīvojumos viņi nav vieni, jo līdzās stājas vecvectēva radītie roboti. Ilustrācijas kopā ar sižetu ir vienkārši super! Negribas likt pilnībā maksimālu vērtējumu, jo gan jau būs vēl labāk. : )

Two years after the tragic death of their father Emily and Navin together with their mother Karen  because of financial reasons move from a big city to a smaller one with just 28 000 citizens, and move into an old and a bit neglected house that belongs to the family. The house however isn’t just any ordinary house; it has its own secrets and mysteries from which one is connected to their great-grandfather.

The control over the events are lost after a some kind of creature kidnaps Karen, and Emily and Navin are forced to become heroes not just to save their mother but possibly also for something much more serious. At least for Emily.

In their effort to rescue their mother, Emily and Navin discover wonderful parallel world in which many sides struggle for power. Luckily in their adventures Emily and Navin aren’t alone because they have help from robots that their great-grandfather built. The art together with the story line are just amazing! I don’t want to give full max rating only because it probably will get better. : )

Nesenie notikumi ar robotu Dengo, kurš meklē palīdzību un draugus nepareizā vietā, tādējādi pakļaujot citus briesmām, ar Heizelas(arī Alanas un Marko mātes) un robotu karaliskā zīdaiņa nolaupīšanu vismaz uz konkrēto brīdi apvieno citubrīd esošus ienaidniekus, Marko un Prince Robot IV, kas rada neparastus momentus.

Cita sižeta līnija ietver Gvendolinu, Sofiju, The Lying Cat un The Brand (The Will māsa) viņu centienos atrast īpašu pretlīdzekli, lai glābtu The Will. Gan šajā, gan iepriekšminētajās divās sižeta līnijās tiek skarti nopietni jautājumi par ģimeni, pašaizliedzību un upuriem, kurus esam gatavi mīļo cilvēku dēļ nest.

Voljumā netrūkst šokējošu momentu, kuri gandrīz visi, šķiet, saistīti ar kāda tēla dramatisku aiziešu aizsaulē. Kas ir viens no iemesliem (bez šaubām arī māksla), kāpēc arī Volume 5 var dot maksimālu vērtējumu. Tagad, kad izlasīts pēdējais pagaidām iznākušais voljums, ar lielu nepacietību jāgaida sestais! : )

The recent events with robot Dengo who seeks the help from the wrong people thereby endangering those near him, by kidnapping Hazel (also Alana and Klara) and the royal robot baby at least for this moment unites characters, Marko and Prince Robot IV, that at different circumstances would be enemies which creates few unusual moments.

The other story line involves Gwendolyn, Sophie, The Lying Cat and The Brand (sister of The Will) as they try to find a cure for The Will. In this and also in the two previously mentioned story lines some serious topics are discussed, like about family, sacrifices and selflessness we are ready to for the people that are important to us.

In this volume there are plenty of shocking moments, and mostly they involved a dramatic passing of some character. Which is one of the reasons (without doubt also the art) why also Volume 5 receives the max rating from me. Now that I have read the last available volume out there I can’t wait for the sixth volume to come out! : )

Dzīve kā bēgļiem un, visu laiku uztraucoties, vai netiks atklāti, pavisam noteikti nav viegla, kad jādomā ne tikai par savu drošību un iztiku, bet arī par meitu. To pierāda Marko un Alana, vismaz viņiem palīdz spoku meitene Izabella un Marko māte Klāra, kā arī attiecīgā planēta, šķiet, kaut cik piemērota. Pastāvīgā spriedze rada konfliktus Alanas un Marko starpā, kuru sekas ir pārsteidzošas.

Pavisam noteikti vardarbības un asiņu šajā voljumā ir pagaidām visvairāk! Robotu (tie ar TV galvām) karaliskajā ģimenē skaitlisks pieaugums, bet diemžēl karš un viss kopumā izveido arī radikālus prātus; jauns spēlētājs, kas apdraud mūsu galvenos varoņus.

Starp citiem tēliem obligāti jāizceļ The Lying Cat. Gribētos gan zināt, kas par dzīvnieku ir Friendo

The life as fugitives and worrying every day that they might be discovered certainly isn’t easy, much more so when you have to think about your daughter. Marko and Alana are proving that, but at least they have a help from ghost Izabel and Marko’s mother Klara, and it seems that the current planet they are on isn’t that bad also. The constant tension creates conflict situations between Alana and Marko and the consequences to them might be surprising.

This volume for sure has the most blood, violence and gore in it so far! In the Robot royal family (those with heads like TV) there’s a new family member born. Unfortunately for them the war has created some dangerous and defective minds; the same character is a new player that might endanger the main heroes of this story.

An honourable mention in this volume is The Lying Cat. It would be interesting to find out what kind of animal Friendo is.

Mana recenzija (pārdomas)/My (thoughts) review

Varētu teikt Alanu un Marko kopā saveda daiļliteratūras grāmata ‘’A Night Time Smoke’’, tāpēc cerībā pēc palīdzības un padoma, viņi visi dodas pie autora D. Oswald Heist. Pirmais iespaids nav diez ko daudzsološs, bet, par laimi, tas ir mānīgs.

Bez pašiem galvenākajiem varoņiem interesants sižets bija par diviem reportieriem, kuru darbs dažiem ir kā kaitinošs traucēklis, un arī The Will, viņa kaķis un Gvendolina. Pēdējie divi noslēgumā sastopas ar Alanu, Marko un viņu draugiem. Jāsaka, ka tādus pavērsienus nebiju gaidījis; asintiņu netrūkst.

Diemžēl ne visiem šī sastapšanās beidzas veiksmīgi. Cik varēju saprast, tad ceturtais voljums laika ziņā nebūs tieši uzreiz pēc trešā. Patīkami, ka varu dot aizvien augstāku vērtējumu! Par to šķiet var teikt paldies līdzi jūtamiem tēliem un labam sižetam (līdz šim).

You might say that Alana and Marko are together thanks D. Oswald Heist’s book A Night Time Smoke, and that’s why their next stop is the author’s home. The first impression of him isn’t the best one but luckily it’s deceptive.

Besides our main characters there were also interesting plot with two reporters whose job is makes some irritated and nervous; and also The Will, The Lying Cat and Gwendolyn were good. The last two meet Alana, Marko and others at the end. I have to say that I didn’t expect what happened at the end; plenty of blood too.

Unfortunately for some this meeting ends rather lifelessly. If I understood correctly the fourth volume doesn’t start right after this one. I’m happy that I can give higher rating to each volume! I guess the thanks goes to characters you can empathize to and a good plot (so far).

Mana recenzija (pārdomas)/My (thoughts) review

Marko un Alanai joprojām jāuztraucas par savu un Heizelas drošību, bet tagad viņi nav vieni. Līdzās ir arī bērna vecvecāki, un saistībā ar to interesantas situācijas, kā viņi mēģina saprast dēla izvēli.

Marko māte pirmajā mirklī ar maģiju aizdabū Izabelu, spoks/Heizelas auklīte, prom uz pavisam citu planētu, un no tā izrietošie piedzīvojumi; īpašs plusiņš par milzi.

Pirmoreiz ieraugām Gvendolinu, kura nebūt nav priecīga, ka Marko viņu pametis un tā vienkārši nesamierināsies. Joprojām ik pa brīdim kāds labs komentārs no Heizalas puses no kāda nezināma brīža nākotnē. : )

Patika atmiņu ainas kā Marko un Alana iepazinās, un sekojoši izdomāja bēgt. Pieļauju, ka fiziskā eksemplārā māksla būtu vēl iespaidīgāka.

Marko and Alana still must worry about their and the Hazel’s safety but now they are not alone. Together with them are their daughter’s grandparents, and that creates some interesting situations as they try to comprehend their son’s choices.

In the first moments Marko’s mother with magic sends away Izabel, ghost/Hazel’s babysitter, to a planet, and then the resultant adventures because of that; a special plus to the giant.

For the time we get to see Gwendolyn and it’s clear that she isn’t happy that Marko left her and won’t accept that. We still see few comments from Hazel from unknown time in the future. : )

I liked the flashback of how Marko and Alana met and eventually ran away. The art probably would be even more impressive in a physical edition.
