Ir noziegumi, kurus nevar vienkārši saprast un izskaidrot, kā vienīgi ļaunuma radītus, un noziedznieki, kuri apzīmējami kā monstri. Mefisto kluba biedri izvēlējušies nevis izvairīties no tā, bet gan pētīt pēc iespējas tuvāk un sīkāk. Bet var pienākt diena, kad tas maksā dārgi. Par ‘’milzīgu’’ prieku Ridzoli psiholoģe Džoisa(no iepriekšējām sērijas grāmatām) ir šī kluba biedre, un arī pārējo biedru idejas nostāda viņu kā lielu skeptiķi.

Tiek atrasts sievietes līķis, un sākotnēji domas ir par saistību ar reliģiju/sātanismu. Pat pieredzējušiem izmeklētājiem paliek baisi, un Maura šoreiz tik ļoti iesaistījusies izmeklēšanas procesā, ka dzīvības apdraudējums vēl nebijušā līmenī.

Fragmentāri tiek dots ieskats ļaundara prātā. Kā arī nodaļas no Lilijas Saulas skatpunkta, kura pirms divpadsmit gadiem palika bez ģimenes, un bailes vēlāk tik lielas, ka spiesta bēgt pāri okeānam, lai katru dienu atskatītos pār plecu.

Gan Ridzoli, gan Mauras personiskajā dzīvē ir savi sarežģījumi. Ridzoli vecāki pēc desmitiem gadu ilgas kopdzīves saskaras ar nopietnām nesaskaņām un šķiršanās draudiem, un viņai neatliek nekas cits, kā mēģināt abus vest pie prāta. Tikmēr Maurai sarežģījumus sagādā jūtas pret mācītāju Danielu. Fragmentarily the reader gets the murderer’s POV. Also some chapter from POV of Lily Saul, 12 years ago she lost her entire family, and later was so frightened that was forced to fly over the ocean and to look behind the shoulder every day.

For both Rizzoli and Isles there are some complications in their personal lifes. Rizzoli’s parents after decades long life together have very big disagreement and are very close to divorce. Rizzoli has no option but to intervene and bring them to some sense. Meanwhile Maura struggles with her feelings for Father Daniel Brophy. Although her mind realizes the reality, her feelings and heart tells her something else.

Populārs kļuvis mīts, ka ASV pilsoņu kara pamatā bija cīņa par vai pret verdzību, bet drīzāk īstais iemesls dienvidu štatu vēlme atdalīties no savienības. Tas arī apskatīts devītajā Malona sērijas grāmatas mūsdienu pasaulē. Bet kas gan tas būtu par Stīva Berija romānu bez bagātībām un zelta. : )

Malons iesaistās pēc kārtējā Stefānijas palīdzības lūguma pasargāt informatoru no mormoņu vidus, jo viens viņas aģents pazudis, bet otrs kavēsies. Varētu domāt, ka reliģijas sekotāji, lai cik ļoti vēlētos realizēt savas intereses atturētos no galējiem/pilnīgi jebkādiem līdzekļiem, bet tā nav. Protams, palīdz, ja viens no tādiem ir ASV senators.

Malons nav vienīgais, kuru Stefānija iesaista no malas. Kasiopeja un Džozepe Salazars(senatora kontaktpersonu Eiropā) bijuši pazīstami jau bērnībā un pat kādu brīdi kā pāris, tādēļ Stefānijai šķiet tikai loģiski lūgt arī viņas palīdzību. Diemžēl pateikt Malonam un Kasiopejai vienam par otru gan nenāk prāta, un tam var būt nepatīkamākas sekas kā varētu domāt.

Mormoņu aktivitātes piesaista Baltā nama uzmanību, un agrāk jebkuras runas par iespējamu atdalīšanos kopš Linkolna laika tikušas ātri vien pieklusinātas, bet tagad viss var mainīties, jo izrādās, ka diženie dibinātāji, kaut arī uz atsevišķa papīra, atstājuši iespēju tādai rīcībai. Protams atliek vien tāds nieks kā attiecīgo dokumentu atrast.

Diez vai mormoņi un senators līdz galam bija pārdomājuši potenciālās sekas, ja realizētu atdalīšanos, kas skartu vairāk nekā vienu štatu. Piemērām, pieļauju, ka akciju tirgi nebūtu iepriecināti un nesāktu kāpt uz augušu, un arī kas būtu ar valūtas vērtību.

The myth the American Civil War was fought for or against slavery, but more likely because the southern states wanted to leave the Union. That also is the main theme in The Lincoln Myth’s nowadays world. But kind of Steve Berry’s book would it be without treasure and gold!

Malone is brought in after another favor for Stephanie, this time to guard an informant from Latter-Day Saints movement or just Mormons. You might think that religious people/followers wouldn’t use any means necessary to achieve their goals but no. Of course it helps that one of them is a senator.

Besides Malone Stephanie also involves Cassiopeia Vitt. Cassiopeia knows Josepe Salazar, who does what the senator tells him (in Europe), from her childhood and once were a couple. That’s why it’s obvious for Stephanie to ask her help. Unfortunately it’s not that obvious to inform Malone and Cassiopeia about each other and might have more unpleasant consequences than intended.

Activities of Latter-Day Saints attracts attention from White House, and if earlier any talks about secession was easily silenced then now everything could change because the great Founding Fathers might have created a document which allows it. There is only such a simple task as to find it.

I doubt if the Mormons or the senator really thought through every possible result from such secession. For one thing I think that stock markets would react positively, also what would happen with currency rate.

The description of the next book The Patriot Threat lets you think that it also talks about the constitution.

Kopš pirmās grāmatas beigām pagājuši divi gadi un Bobijs pārkvalificējies par štata detektīvu. Jau otrajā dienā viņam tiek smaga lieta, turklāt ne šāda tāda, bet gan tāda, kas atgādina Katrīnas nolaupīšanu. Diemžēl pamestās Bostonas garīgi neveselo slimnīcas teritorijā tiek atrasti sešu meiteņu mumificējušies līķi, kurām tā ‘’nepaveicās’’. Pa to laiku arī D.D. Vorena vairs nav vien detektīve, bet kļuvusi par seržanti.

Par spīti visām līdzībām jau visai drīz kļūst skaidrs, ka vainīgais šajā lietā ir pavisam cits. Izmeklēšanā palīdz Anabella, kuras medaljons atrasts pie viena no līķiem; izrādās, ka viņas bērnības draudzene. Anabella, pateicoties ārkārtīgi paranoiskajam tēvam, bet ar labu iemeslu, tika sveikā. Kopš septiņu gadu vecuma ik pa laikam pameta dzīves vietu un mainīja identitāti. Tēva mācības un bēguļošana atbildīga par to, kāda Anabella kļuvusi; viņas vienīgā draudzene ir viņas suns Bella. Izmeklēšanas laikā atklātās patiesības visai šokējošas un ne viena vien asara gan no Anabellas, gan citiem tēliem.

Uz pāris epizodēm iesaistīta Katrīna. Šajā ziņā varētu piebilst, ka arī šoreiz Bobijs nemācās no kļūdām un ļaujas apdraudētas sievietes (Anabellas) valdzinājumam, un šķiet, ka šoreiz arī varētu būt nopietnāk.

Līdz gandrīz pašām beigām tiek uzturēta intriga par vainīgo. Tiek doti vairāki varianti, kā viens no slimnīcas pacientiem īsi pirms slimnīcas slēgšanas Kristofers Eolla (interesants un biedējošs stāsts par šo indivīdu). Bet patiesība par īsto viens no tām šokējoši pārsteidzošajiem atklājumiem.

Prognoze, ka Vorena darbība būs vairāk, piepildījās : )

                                                                                                                                                

It’s been two years since the events of the first book Bobby has qualified to be a state detective. Already in his second day he receives a heavy case and not just any case but one that resembles of where Catherine was kept. Six mummified bodies of little girls are found in a pit at territory of abandoned Boston’s mental hospital. In those two years D.D. Warren also isn’t detective anymore and has advanced to position of Sgt.

Despite all similarities early on it’s clear that the perpetrator in this case is someone else. Annabelle whose locket is found on one of the bodies becomes a real help; it’s found out that the girl is her childhood friend. Thanks to her paranoid (with a good reason) father it wasn’t his daughter Annabelle. Since she was seven years old they were forced to flee and continue to change their home and identities. Lessons and advices from the father are responsible for what his daughter has become; and that her only friend is her dog Bella – much braver than Courage the Cowardly Dog. The investigation reveals some shocking truth and are responsible for few tears from Annabelle and other characters.

Catherine Gagnon participates in few episodes. In this case I should mention that Bobby doesn’t learn from his mistakes and once again falls for a damsel in distress (Annabelle); my guess that this time it might become more serious.

The intrigue of who is the perpetrator is maintained almost till the end. There are given few candidates as former patient Christopher Eola shortly before closing the hospital (interesting and frightening story about him). But the truth about who it really is is one of those shockingly surprising revelations.

My guess that D.D. Warren will participate more was accurate. : )

Iemesls, kāpēc Malons aizgāja no dienesta bija pēdējā, šķietami mazsvarīga uzdevuma, traģiska neveiksme, kam par upuri kļuva Henrika Torvaldsena dēls, kas vēlāk rezultējās Malona un Henrika draudzībā. Ja iepriekšējā sērijas grāmatas pamatā Malona interese par tēva likteni, tad šinī Henrika atriebe par nogalināto dēlu (vien par kādu cenu?).

Ar vienu no vainīgajiem Henriks tiek galā jau sākumā, bet, lai tiktu galā ar otru, Greihamu Ašbiju(Graham Ashby), viņš aicina talkā Semu Kolinsu (atlaists no slepenā dienesta savu uzskatu un aktivitāšu dēļ), kā arī Malonu. Bet zinot, ka Kasiopeja visticamāk mēģinātu atrunāt, viņai zvanīts netiek.

Bez atriebes, kā lielais noslēpums izvēlēti iespējamie Napoleona dārgumi, kurus viņš it kā paspējis noslēpt pirms trimdas. Šo dārgumu atrašanā ieinteresēts ir ne vien Ašbijs, bet arī Elīza Larokve. Viņas motivācija vairāk balstās uz ģimeniskām jūtām. Turklāt savākusi kopā pāris bagātu ļaužu ar plānu, kā ar bailēm sabiedrībā, iespējamiem draudiem un aizdevumiem varētu pamatīgi nopelnīt.

Jauniņais galvenākais tēls Sems (juška, ka varētu parādīties tālāk sērijā) likās interesants un labs papildinājums.

Tas, ko Henriks, neparedzēja un neiedomājās, ka arī amerikāņi, un šeit parādās Stefānija, varētu būt ieinteresēti Ašbijā; viņš ir viņu spiegs Elīzas izveidotajā klubiņā.

Diemžēl grāmatas atrisinājums pavisam bēdīgs, un, lai gan maitekļus reizēm neesmu atturējies izpaust, šis tomēr tāds pārāk nozīmīgs, un atliek vienīgi – KĀPĒC?! :/

                                                                                                                                                

The reason why Malone left Magellan Billet was devastating failure of seemingly easy last task which resulted in casualties and one of whom was son of Henrik Thorvaldsen. If the previous books was about Malone and his father than this one is about Henrik’s revenge for murder of his son (but really at what cost?).

One of the perpetrators Henrik kills already at the beginning but to deal with the other one, Graham Ashby, he has to call help – Sam Collins (fired from Justice Department because of his activities and beliefs) and also Cotton Malone. But knowing that Cassiopeia might try to talk him out of it she is left aside.

Without the revenge there are also possible treasure, this time they are treasure that supposedly Napoleon Bonaparte was able to hide away before his exile. In finding them Graham Ashby isn’t the only interested, it’s Eliza Larocque. Hers motivation is based on family-oriented feelings. Furthermore she has gathered together few filthy rich people and she has a plan make them even richer using fear in general public, probable threat and loans.

The new good gut Sam was interesting and a nice addition to the main characters. And I have a feeling that he might show up later in the series.

But what Henrik wasn’t able to anticipate was that Americans (where Stephanie shows up) would be interested in Graham Ashby; he is their spy in Elizas little club.

Unfortunately the book has very sad ending and although from time to time I reveal few spoilers this one is too important. I can just ask WHY?! :/

Pēc piecu gadu bēguļošanas Arkādijs Pinks tiek atrasts nošāvies jūras krasta. Par pašnāvību nav šaubu, bet pamatotas aizdomas, ka ir palīdzēts.

Izmeklētājs kopā ar kolēģiem sāk ar sākumu, ar Arkādija bēgšanu un tās iemeslu – krāpšanos lielos apmēros firmā ‘’Fotons’’. Brīžiem var likties, ka nekāds atrisinājums neradīsies.

Patika, ka Pinks netiek parādīts tikai kā noziedznieks un zaglis un varētu pat teikt, ka tiek daļēji attaisnots. Bez Izmeklētāja tiek piedāvāti arī citi POV(arī pats Arkādijs), kas palīdz izprast kopējo situāciju. Un tieši šādi pamazām skaidrojot arī atklājas vainīgi no tā paša ‘’Fotona’’, un ne bez izmeklētāja kolēģa Ivara palīdzības.

Tā arī paša izmeklētāja vārdu, no kura skatpunkta pārsvarā stāstīts, neieraudzīju, kas būtu paticies.

Šis stāsts bija stipri labāks par iepriekš lasīto ‘’Nekas nav noticis’’.

                                                                                                                                                

After five years of running and hiding Arkādijs Pinks is found dead at the beach. It’s clear that it is a suicide but with suspicion that there has been help.

Investigator together with colleagues start from the beginning with Arkādijs running away and the reason of it – fraud in the where he was a director. For a while it seems that the case might end with nothing.

What I liked was that Arkādijs isn’t showed only as a bad and evil criminal.

Mainly the story is told from investigators POV which helps to understand all whys.

Viens, ko skaidri zinu, ka šādā nākotnes pasaulē es nevēlētos dzīvot. Par spīti tehnoloģijām un arī iespējai, ja vari atļauties tikt atdzīvinātam. Šķiet, šķirojums pēc ienākumiem ir vēl krasāks, un pateicoties tehnoloģiskajām iespējam, varētu dzīvot ar citiem sarunājoties vien caur ekrāniem + vairākiem reizē, kas kaitinātu, ja nesaproti vai runā ar tevi, vai aizņemts citā sarunā.

Lorela(Lorelei) būtu aptuveni pielīdzināma vlogera zvaigzne, bet viņas gadījumā gandrīz 24/7. Pilnībā atkarīga no viņai pievērstās uzmanības un nespēj iedomāties, kā var dzīvot bez tās; kārtīgs narciss. Galvenākie varoņi Robs(Rob) un Veronika savā ziņā līdzīgi savās situācijās. Vienīgi Robam tas aizsākas un arī turpinājums tāds neparastāks. Viņa attiecību stāsts ar Vinteru(Winter) – viņa upuri ceļu negadījumā. Bet par to jāpateicas Bridesicle programmai, kas viņu iesaldē. Drusku jāpabrīnās, ka Robam par to neseko īpašs sods, izņemot tas, ko pats sev uzliek.

Pēc tam, kad vienkāršā operācijā mirst gados jaunā un kopumā veselā Adeles kolēģe un draudzene Hloja, Adele uzsāk pati savu izmeklēšanu un sadarbojas arī ar izmeklētājiem.

Ellisa slimnīcas personāls un grāmatas personāži kopumā ir pat ļoti raibi, jau sākot ar pustrako, misticisma un visāda citāda netradicionālo lietu piekritēju Helēnu. Hloja nav pirmais upuris, par kuriem ievadā, kas arī, bez Hlojas labās veselības, ir vēl viens iemesls pamatotām aizdomām.

Adelei piemīt lielisks detektīves talants, un brīžiem šķiet, ka izmeklēšana viņai padodas labāk par īstajiem izmeklētājiem, un, kaut arī šī grāmata nav daļa no sērijas, tāda tā noteikti varēja būt.

Bez Adeles patīkami citi tēli, kā viņas uzticības persona un draudzene Sintija; abu draudzība tik cieša, ka pat ļauj sevi pierunāt veikt novērošanu : ). Kā arī Adeles suns Nelsons un drīzāk metāllūžņos nododamais auto Nezvērs, kura mērķis pēc pašas Adeles domām ir kādudien viņu nomušīt :D

Aizdomas jau ar pirmajiem mirkļiem kopš Hlojas krīt uz vienu no viņas kolēģiem, un tiek doti arī pienācīgi motīvi, bet patiesība tiešām ir nedaudz neticama, bet arī pārsteidzoša. Drusku nepatika beigās esošie pagarie un paskaidrojošie monologi.

 Neliels, bet interesants ieskats par Sesāriju Evoru, mākslinieci no Kaboverdes. Karjeras sākums nebija nekāds spožais, un bieži vien par uzstāšanos pretī saņemot vien vakariņas vai tikai dzērienu. Alkohols kādu laiku bijis problēma.

Pasaules mēroga slavu iegūst vien ap 50 gadu vecumu, ko patīkami uzzināt no autora vēstījuma, ka nedz slava, nedz nauda nav spējusi izmainīt Sesārijas personību un izturēšanos.

Jāatzīst, ka pašam nav līdz šim sanācis klausīties mākslinieces daiļradi, ko tuvākajā laikā noteikti izlabošu. Grāmatas beigās pilna diskogrāfija ar albumu un tajos ietilpstošo dziesmu nosaukumiem. Kā arī jāšaubās, vai būtu atpazinis pirms tam pēc attēla, lai gan nav tā, ka nemaz nebūtu manījis.

Grāmata sastāv no trim atšķirīgiem un visai interesantiem un neparastiem stāstiem. Katrā galvenie varoņi ir bērni/jaunieši.

Vislabāk patika ‘’Hobgobling Horror’’, kurš ar mirušajiem bagātākais, lai gan netiek pateikts līdz galam ‘’No Way Out’’ un liek pašam minēt, kas notiktu tālāk.

Nav slikts arī ‘’The Price of Friendship’’ stāsts par draudzības cenu, kā arī ideja par savu atmiņu apmaiņu, tā, ka to neatceras vairāk, pret kko vērtīgu.

Šajā priekšpēdējā grāmatā Greisa un Konors pilnībā izjūt savu patieso būtību, un katrs to izjūt pavisam atšķirīgi. Abi arī dodas līdzīgā misijā, bet gan Konors, gan Greisa manuprāt pārāk viegli ar Sidorio, lēdijas Lokvudas, kā arī Džeza un Džonija(Johnny) palīdzību tiek novirzīti no patiesā mērķa; varēja kaut drusku ilgāk noturēties.

Lai gan jau uz beigām, un tomēr atgriezās ‘’Noktirnes’’ kapteinis(labie vampīrpirāti), bet pavisam atšķirīgā izskatā un pat pilnīgi ar vārdu. Pie pozitīvā vēl var pielikt, ka pirāti cīņa pret vampīrpirātiem nav vieni un atrod neparastus sabiedrotos ar kopēju mērķi. +šoreiz pat varēja drusku just līdzi Sidorio tēlam.
