Tālu kosmosā tiek atklāts neiedomājams objekts (nodēvē par Ramu), kas milzu ātrumā tuvojas mūsu Saules sistēmai, un tiek izlemts nosūtīt komandu tā izpētei. Savs priekšstāsts par tehnoloģijām un iemesliem, kas ļāva pamanīt tuvojošos objektu.

Ramas izpētei ilgs laiks netiek atvēlēts, bet nevajag bīties, jo katrs mirklis nes jaunus pārsteigumus, un katra nākamā stunda liek brīnīties vēl vairāk kā iepriekšējā. Pirmais pārsteigums, ka Rama ir mākslīgi veidots kosmosa kuģis/gandrīz kā planēta. Kā nākamie seko robotiem līdzīgi radījumi; atgādināja briesmonīšus no Velsa ‘’Pasauļu kara’’. Visi daļējā šokā no kurienes tādi, kad vēl iepriekš visiem šķitis, ka uz Ramas neviena nav. Un tie ir tikai daļa no kopējo brīnumu kopuma, kas tiek pētniekiem. : )

Rama sniedz pārliecinošu atbildi par to, ka neesam vienīgās inteliģentās būtnes Visumā; par to, ka kaut kur citur ir dzīvībā kā tāda personīgi nešaubos. Diemžēl cilvēki no Ramas vai tās būvētājiem nesaņem nekādu uzmanību (pilnībā ignorēti esam), ko varētu uztvert kā lielāku apvainojumu, kā tad, ja tas būtu kāda veidā pateikt vārdos. Liek padomāt, vai iemesls, kāpēc citplanētieši nav devuši nekādu ziņu Mums, ir tāpēc, ka neesam nemaz tik īpaši, ka gribētos domāt.

Līdzīgi kā Childhood’s End arī šis darbs nešķita tik labs salīdzinoši ar 2001: Space Odyssey. Protams, Ramas apraksti ir vienreizēji, bet tas tomēr nekalpo kā kopējā stāsta glābiņš. Kā arī nevarētu teikt, ka pēc tādiem aprakstiem pašam gribētos uz Ramas pabūt :D.

                                                                                                                                           

Far far away an imaginably huge object (will be named Rama) with tremendous speed is approaching our Solar system, and it’s getting decided to send a team to explore it. There is also some little story about the technologies that helped to discover Rama, as why they were invented.

The time to explore Rama is limited but no need to worry because each moment and hour brings new surprises. And the first one is that Rama isn’t a natural object but actually is artificially made, and is almost like a big planet not space craft. The next surprise could be a three legged robot like creatures which reminded me those from The War of Worlds. Everyone is a bit shocked because just a little while ago everyone thought that Rama is deserted. And those are just few of surprises for the explorers. : )

Rama is a clear sign that humans aren’t the only intelligent being in the Universe; considering how many stars and planets there are I don’t doubt about a life somewhere else in general. Unfortunately Ramans ignore humans completely without any acknowledgement of existence which actually could be a bigger insult than anything to humans in words. Makes you think that maybe no alien has arrived to Earth just because We aren’t that special as majority would like to think.

Still 2001: Space Odyssey in my mind is better than this or Childhood’s End, those are Arthur’s book which I have heard. Of course the descriptions of Rama are amazing but that doesn’t make the whole story amazing. Also those descriptions doesn’t convince me to visit Rama.

Kā jau aprakstā minēts Ambera un Billijs knapi izglābj Lariju no suņu ķērājas, kam seko abu pakaļdzīšanās visiem trim suņiem. Noskrietais gabals kopā šķiet vismaz vairāki kilometri, un tāds skrējiens aizved viņus pilsētas nomalē.

Tur piecinieks sastop bāreņu bērnu bariņu(kopumā deviņi), un Billija un Amberas uzrašanās šiem bērniem nāk kā dzīvības glābiņš. Nedaudz esmu pārsteigts, ka neviens no bērniem, par spīti dabā esošajam, neatpazina vismaz kaut ko no dabā esamā, un aiz bailēm saindēties iztikuši no kukaiņiem. Tā nu Ambera un īpaši Billijs ņem gādību pār bērniem, un pie viena arī apmācot, lai viņi spētu iztikt arī paši.

Cik noprotams stāstā varētu virzīt fakts, ka Billijam jau apnikusi pilsētas dzīve un rosība. Pāris minējumu ir arī par citiem aspektiem turpinājumos. : )

                                                                                                                                                

As the synopsis mentions Amber and Billy barely saves Larry from the dog catcher. This event is followed by a chase after all three dogs. The distance is surely few kilometers and such a run leads them outside of the city.

There they discover a bunch of orphan kids (overall nine) and the appearance of Billy and Amber is like a life saver for them. I’m a bit surprised as none of the kids didn’t recognize that there a plenty to eat and fearing that they would get poisoned ate just cockroaches and other insects. So Amber and Bill takes care of them but also teaching them how to survive.

If I understand correctly the story could advance thanks to the fact that Billy is tired from the city and its noises. I have also few more guesses about other things. : )

Lilijas meita Viktorija jeb vienkārši Tori(17g) vienudien iziet no klases(vasarā pēc pašas un mātes izvēles), un ar mašīnu viena pati aizbraukusi uz Lasvegasu. Pilsēta, no kuras Lilija centusies izvairīties un aizmirst.

Tur Tori vecmamma Elizabete jeb Mimi vada Royal Wedding Chapel. Mimī(tas pats par Tori) kapela nozīmē visu, kaut gan pati precējusies vairāk par vienu reizi. Tajā pašā pilsētā mitinās Tori tēvs Džeks, arī ar viņu Lilijai nav tās pašas siltākās attiecības. Situācija kļūst vēl piņķerētāka, kad uzzinām, ka Džeka tēvs Eds un Mimi agrāk bijuši precēti.

Bet visas nesaskaņas jāaizmirst, jo Elizabeti ķer trieka un attiecīgajā stāvoklī nespējīga vadīt biznesu. Lilija var paļauties uz viņas mūžīgo partneri Frančesku, kura bērnībā bijusi gandrīz vai vairāk kā mamma nekā Elizabete. Ģimenes saitēm liela izturības pārbaude.

Pašai īsti negribot, Lilija tiek ielikta kapelas vadīšanas postenī. Vienlaikus viņa mēģina saprast savu meitu, viņas tēvu un visu kopumā. Kapelai radīta burvīga, karaliska leģenda, bet tas un vēl šis tas stāsta laikā atklājas citādāk. Kamēr Lilija bijusi prom, kapelai nav klājies īpaši spoži. Ir ļauts tai novecot un iestrēgt pagātnē; jāiegulda pūliņi, lai tā atkal spīdētu kā agrāk.

Drusku nepatika frāžu atkārtošanās vai to versija nedaudz pārfrāzēta. Un vispār! Kur tik daudz jūtelības!? Lily’s teenage daughter Victoria or just Tori goes out of her class (on summer) and drives by herself to Las Vegas. To the city from which Lily has tried to avoid and forget.

There lives Tori’s grandmother Elizabeth or just Mimi and she is managing the Royal Wedding Chapel. For her (and also for Tori) the chapel means everything, although she has been married more than once. At the same time Las Vegas is home for Tori’s dad Jack, and with him too Lily doesn’t have the best relationship possible. The situation gets even more complex when the reader finds out that Jack’s father Ed once was married to Mimi.

But they have to put everything aside when Mimi suffers a stroke and is no longer able to work at chapel. Lily can rely on Francesca, Mimi’s partner since forever. She sometimes has been more like a mom for Lily in childhood than Mimi. Family’s strength has to endure a lot.

Not really wanting it Lily finds herself leading the daily life of the chapel. And in the meanwhile she’s trying to understand Tori, her father and everything overall. There’s a wonderful and royal legend for the chapel, but the truth about that and few more things reveal itself during the story. While Lily has been away the Royal Wedding Chapel has lost its charm and elegance, and is in desperate need for refurbishing so it would be like earlier and even better; and not just visually.

A bit too much repetition in phrases or similar version of it slightly different. And anyways, who needs so much feelings! More than enough sentimentality. Still, the ending was ok, with some morality.

Gajs Montāgs dzīvo pasaulē, kur grāmatas ir aizliegtas un dedzinātas. Pēc profesijas uguns radītājs un nevis dzēsējs, jo visas mājas ir pilnībā ugunsdrošas un bija vajadzība atrast visiem dzēsējiem jaunu nodarbošanos. Tomēr autors intervijā bilst, ka aizliegta ir grāmatu lasīšana, nevis to atrašanās tavā īpašumā.

Pamatojums, kāpēc vara šādi rīkojusies visai absurds, min arī to, ka jau kādai grupai kaut kas nepatīk, tad tas uzreiz kļūst par iemeslu mešanai ugunī, šķiet, tik lai saglabāt mieru vai kā. Par spīti tam, ka grāmatas tiek vainotas kā visu nelaimju cēlonis, Gajs nav īpaši priecīgs. Tā, sākoties ar iekšējām pārdomām, Gajs izmainās, un rīkojas pat tik radikāli, ka slēpj pie sevis dažādus literārus darbus.

Savā atklāsmē Gajs tomēr ir savtīgs, iespējams vienkārši nespēja iejaukties, izraisot dažu labu līdzcilvēka pāragru nāvi, nemaz nepieminot viņa darbu pirms tam.

Šī pasaule nav bez savas pretošanās kustības, vienīgais makten pasīva, un gaida, kad pati sabiedrība attapsies, lai tā iegūtu skaitlisko pārsvaru. Un metode, kādu viņi izvēlējušies, arī visai neparasta – katrs ir iegaumējis ja ne kādu grāmatu pilnībā, tad vismaz nodaļu, un tad, kad būs pārmaiņu laiks, varēs atkal visu apkopot.

Grūti iedomāties, kā gan tik tālu sabiedrība būtu spējusi nonākt, ja es satraucos pat par mazāko bukti un ielocītu lapu :D, un atkal jāpiemin intervija, kur autors min piemēru par grāmatu dedzināšanu Berlīnē Hitlera laikā (piem., ‘’Grāmatu zagle’’). Šis stāsts liek novērtēt, cik gan vērtīgas tās grāmatas un stāsti tajās ira.

Ja vēl ir kas, ko vērts pieminēt, tad tas, ka autors aprakstos ievij maņas, piem., oža. Jau tāda vienkārša padarīšana kā fiziskas grāmatas smarža.

                                                                                                                                                

In the world where all books are banned and if found burned Guy Montag is fireman. In this world all houses are completely fire proof so their job is to burn books and not to put out fires. Although the author in the interview mentions that it’s illegal to read books and not to own them.

Reasoning why such a thing is done is absurd like if some group doesn’t like such and such book then it has to be destroyed, I guess to please them. Despite that it’s told that books are the reason for every bad thing and unhappiness Guy can’t say about himself that he would be happy. So the changes starts with inner contemplation and continues with hiding books.

I would say that Guy in his revelation is a bit selfish, maybe just incapable, as some of his acquaintances get themselves killed, not even mentioning his work before that.

This world isn’t without its resistance, only this one is a passive one. They are waiting when the society will realize in what kind of world they live in, and when the change comes they would outnumber others. While that hasn’t happened each of them has memorized if not a whole book than at least a chapter, so later it would be possible to recreate the lost books.

It’s hard to imagine what would motivate a society to burn books considering that I get upset about the smallest dent or bent page. Once again I have to mention the interview where Ray gives an example of Berlin in Hitler’s time; my example could be The Book Thief. This story makes you appreciate how important books and the stories in them really are

The last thing worth mentioning would be that the author uses senses like smell in descriptions. Like a good smell of a book.

Tomass Mors un Ridzoli ir neparasts izmeklētāju pāris, kas spiests darboties kopā. Bostonas pilsētā atrasta nežēlīgi nogalināta sieviete, bet pats trakākais, ka viņai izņemta dzemde, visticamāk kā trofeja.

Tomass tiek piesaistīts izmeklēšanai, jo pirms gada viņš vadīja līdzīgu izmeklēšanu, diemžēl bez panākumiem. Tikmēr Ridzoli kā vienīgā sieviete izmeklētāja savā iecirknī katru dienu saskaras ar nievājošu attieksmi un izmisīgi vēlas pierādīt savas spējas starp vīriešu kolēģiem.

Lai gan noziegumi, ļaundaris un kriminālais kopumā nav slikts, kaut kas tomēr pietrūka; nebija tā sajuta, kas mudinātu pēc iespējas ātrāk izlasīt lapaspusi. Nevajadzīga šķita arī romantiskā līnija, kur vīrietis atkal izjūt vajadzību mierināt un būt atbalsts, un ne starp Tomasu un Ridzoli. Varbūt pie vainas, ka vēl labā atmiņā ir detektīves Vorenas sērija. Interesanti, ka notikumu reģions ir Bostona un tās apkārtne, laikam gan Vorenai, gan Bobijam citas darīšanas bijušas. : )

Tomass saviem kolēģiem no malas šķiet misters pareizais, tāds, kas nekad nepārkāptu noteikumus un vienmēr seko katram burtam. Tomēr patiesībā viņš joprojām katru dienu mēģina tikt galā ar sievas nāvi un pretrunīgajām jaunajām jūtām.

Pāris interesantu epizožu no ķirurģes Katrīnas Kordelas ikdienas slimnīcā. Viņas saistība ar jaunajiem upuriem ir fakts, ka pirms diviem gadiem izdzīvoja līdzīgu uzbrukumu. Tas viss uzplēš kaut cik sadziedētas psiholoģiskās rētas. Gan viņa, un īpaši Tomass un Ridzoli prāto, kā gan šis slepkava zina sīkas detaļas no tām lietām, un, kāpēc viņš tā ieciklējies uz Kordelu. Tomēr skaidrs ir viens, tas nevar būt tas pats.

Patika aspekts par ļaundara upuru izvēles taktiku, lai gan drusku nožēlojami, ka izvēlas tādu, kas jau piedzīvojusi ļoti traumatisku un šausminošu notikumu; šajā ziņā nozīmīga ir viņa darbavietai. Kas nu viņam ļauj vieglāk tikt galā ar iecerēto upuri.

Vairākus gadus pirms bloga ēras bijus lasījis Rizzoli & Isles sērijas otro grāmatu, kas beidzot pamudināja uzsākt lasīt arī pārējo sēriju.

                                                                                                                                                

Thomas Moore and Rizzoli is unusual duo and couldn’t be much different that is forced to work together. In Boston there’s found a brutally murdered woman but the craziest is that the womb is missing and probably taken as a trophy.

Because detective Thomas Moore a year ago worked with a similar case (unfortunately unsolved) he is involved to investigate this one. Meanwhile Rizzoli desperately wants to prove that she can be as good as any male cop as she is the only one in her unit.

Although crimes, the culprit and everything together wasn’t bad something overall was missing. Plus an unnecessary romance where the male once again feels a need to help a damsel in distress; and it’s not Thomas and Rizzoli. Maybe that Detective D.D. Warren is still in a good memory is to be blamed. Interesting that the setting is in Boston and its area. I guess both Warren and Bobby had other thing to do and solve. : )

Anyway, from aside Thomas seems to be almost a saint, someone who strictly follows rules. But that is just a mask as inwardly he still tries get over a grief of wife’s death and the new contradictory feelings.

There were few interesting moments in surgeon’s Catherine Cordell daily routine at hospital. Her connection with the new victims is that two years ago she survived a similar attack. These new events bring back painful memories. Not only she but Thomas and Rizzoli (especially) wants to understand how this guy knows the details and why he is obsessed with Cordell. One thing is clear, this can’t be the same guy.

I liked how the culprit chose his victims but it’s a bit pitiful as he chooses already physically and mentally traumatized women; in this case his job and workplace really helps. That allows him to feel more powerful over his victim and helps to overpower them more easily.

Many years before my blog I read the second book of Rizzoli & Isles series what motivated me to finally read other books of this series.

Nemaz tik ideāli izplānots noziegums, inkasentu aplaupīšana, nemaz nav, bet lielu darba daļu ir sajūta, ka vainīgie tiks cauri sveikā ar prāvo guvumu.

Bieža lēkāšana starp pagātni, kur doti iemesli un pat mēģināts attaisnot iesaistītos, un tagadni izmeklēšanu. Diemžēl jau laupīšanas brīdi neiztiek bez upuriem, tātad arī nozieguma izpilde nav ideāla, kā arī vēlāk jācieš nevainīgiem un vispār diezgan asiņaini.

Nepatika biežā skatpunktu maiņa un arī citu, laupīšanā neiesaistītu, tēlu iepazīstināšana, bet arī tas savā ziņā palīdz izprast motivācijas.

Tomēr pulkvedis Konrāds (interesants kadrs) ar citiem izmeklēšanā iesaistītajiem to atrisina, lai gan trīs dienas jebkuros laikos skaitās ātri, tad bik skumīgi, ka ne bez liekiem upuriem. Kas zin, pie citu apstākļu sakritības, līdz laupīšanai nemaz nebūtu nonākuši.

Meklējot internetā attēlu un aprakstu, atradu, ka pēc grāmatas motīviem ir arī filma ‘’Trīs dienas pārdomām’’, kura gan nav redzēta.

                                                                                                                                                

The crime and plan to rob collectors isn’t that perfect but almost til the end there’s a feeling that the guilty ones or at least some of them would get away with the loot.

Constant change of time between past and present where it’s mostly investigation, that gives you understanding for those involved, why they did what they did. Even the robbery and plan’s execution isn’t perfect because they need to use firearm; also later there are innocent victims and all in all just bloody.

Unlikable was often POV change even to characters that weren’t involved in the crime or investigation. But it did help to understand motivations.

Nevertheless colonel Konrāds (interesting personality…) with help of others are successful in solving the case; however three days are quite fast but a bit sad that not enough because of some unnecessary casualties. Who knows, to different circumstances, there might not be enough reasons to go through with the plan.

Searching the www for book cover and synopsis found that there is film adaptation (‘’Trīs dienas pārdomām’’) which I haven’t seen.

Tagad jau iepriekš, pirms lasīt Mansarda publicētu grāmatu, sagatavojos, ka tā nebūs parasta. Arī šis darbs pie tādiem neparastajiem pieskaitāms.

Tātad Herberts Priede uztic draugam/paziņam Zulikam sastiķēt kopā grāmatu detektīva žanrā par pamatu ņemot audžudēla Ginta USB zibatmiņā atrastu 24 lapaspušu garu citpasaules stāstu. Nedaudz iedziļinoties, saskatījis biedējošas līdzības ar reāliem cilvēkiem, ieskaitot pašu. Pavisam muļķīga rīcība no Herberta bija šo garadarbu ievietot internetā, šķietami drošā vidē/lapā – domāta ģimenes savstarpējai saziņai (pirms Zulika); izgāja ārpus kontroles.

Citpasaules personāži tiešām ir savā ziņā līdzīgi ar ‘’reālajiem’’ – gan Sirmais (Herberts), gan Atkritējs (Gints) un Kazugane(Roberta). Es pat teiktu, ka ‘’Melanholiskajā detektīvā’’ vairāk risinātas visu šo un vēl dažu tēlu, piemēram, Nikolass(pieminēts pamaz, sākumā un beigās), savstarpējās attiecības, nekā detektīva stāsts. Lai gan jau pašā sākumā tiek pateikts, ka Herberts līdz grāmatas beigām dzīvajos nepaliks (aizdomīga nāve).

Pavērsieni darba beigās labā ziņā var likt drusku pabrīnīties, tostarp arī vainīgais attiecībā par Herbertu. Domājams, autors var būt priecīgs, ka ‘’Melanholiskajam detektīvam’’ atradīsies lasītāji arī 28.gadsimtā, vien interesanti, kā skaidrojumi lasītājam iekļuvuši šajā 21.gadsimta izdevumā.

Vietām bija pat nedaudz šizīgi; tiek reizēm lēkāts laikā.

                                                                                                                                                

Now I already know that before you read something published by Mansards you have to be prepared that it might not be ordinary and this book was of those.

So Herberts Priede trusts his friend Zuliks finish a book (like ghostwriter) for basis using a 24 pages long story that he found in USB flash drive of his step son Gints. After reading the story Herberts saw a bit frightening similarities between characters in this otherworld story and real life. Totally silly thing for Herberts was to post this story in the internet, although initially thinking it’s safe because the site was protected with password meant for family members but it got out of control (that’s before Zuliks).

Characters really were quite similar with the ‘’real’’ ones – like Sirmais (Herberts), Atkritējs (Gints) and Kazugane (Roberta). I would say this book deals with relationships between them all and few other characters than being something like detective story. But in the beginning you are told that Herberts won’t be alive at the end and that his death was suspicious.

Ending revealed few surprising facts, one of them about the killer of Herberts. Supposedly author could be happy that this book will be read also in 28th century but what boggled my mind was how explanations for read from that time managed to get into this edition.

Pasaule, kurā cilvēki nav vienīgās inteliģentās būtnes. Ir arī cilvēkam līdzīgas būtnes ar spārniem, nosauktas par urvogeliem(urvogel), kuru sabiedrības un uzvedības modelis diezgan atšķiras, kā arī parasta izskata putni, kuri pēc spēj runāt, bet šajā pirmajā grāmatā mazāk par cilvēku un urvogelu saskarsmi un vairāk tieši galvenā varoņa Roko(Rocco) piedzīvojumi.

Roko jau no bērnības apzinājies savu atšķirību, jo māte cilvēks, bet tēvs bija urvogels. Viendien ziņkārības mākts, domādams, ka neviens neredz, aizlavās līdz tuvējai urvogelu pilsētai Krakatoanai (Krakatoan). Šī rīcība tad ir kā katalizators visai pārējai notikumu secībai.

Bija interesanti iedomāties urvogelu kā bara dzīvnieku sabiedrību, un to iepazīt Roko palīdz iegūtie draugi – Iggy, Basalt, Magma, Vesta.

No attāluma šķita, ka Krakatoana ir neizsakāmi skaista un burvīga, bet, kad Roko ir tajā, atklāj patieso seju. To pārvalda nežēlīga valdniece Harpija(Harpia). Bet Roko un viņa draugiem šajā ziņā būtiska nozīme pārmaiņu ziņā. Nedaudz par vienkāršotu.

Diemžēl lielākais mīnus bija notikumi un laika posmi/gaita, kādā domāts, ka tie norisinās. Lai gan notikumi norisinās vairāku nedēļu(laikam pāris mēneši), tāda sajūta neradās. Kā arī galvenais un galvenākie varoņi šķita par jaunu saviem darbiem, un būtu jāpiedomā pie cīņas ainām. Toties lielāks pluss trīs lieliskas ilustrācijas, tomēr tikai trīs.

Otrā grāmata par Draudzīgā meža iemītniekiem ar astoņiem stāstiem koncentrējas uz mazo ežu puiku. Kā jau aprakstā minēts, piedzīvojumi ezim netrūkst, un arī citi meža iemītnieki tajos pieliek savu roku. Turklāt viņš paspēj nosvinēt vairāk kā vienu dzimšanas dienu, protams, ja stāsti sarindoti hronoloģiski.

Patika ilustrācijas, kuras bija labākas un arī vairāk skaita ziņā, bet liels mīnuss, ka vairāki zīmējumi precīzi neattēloja stāstā notiekošajam.

Ja sākotnēji biju skeptisks par vēl vienu spiegu, tad izlasot nemaz nebija tik traki. Tātad galvenais varonis Džonnijs(Johnny Clunker) 15 gados jau ir superspiegs, turklāt ļoti augstās domās par sevi, un komandas darbā ne tik labs. Džonnija lielā misija ir iegūt superčipu, kas ir desmit reizes jaudīgāks par jebkuru citu. Turklāt, par ko būtu jāšaubās, spēj jebkur ielauzties un vēl sazin ko.

Viss nebūt nenorit, kā Džonnijam gribētos, turklāt bez lielā ienaidnieka ‘’United Order’’ uzrodas sabiedrotā un konkurente reizē Nensija(Nancy Korrins). Salīdzinot ar Džonniju daudz prātīgāka. Bet kā jau pie bērnu grāmatas, tad romantiskais attīstās ļoti lēni un pamazām.

Diemžēl viens mīnuss, ka notikumi tiek nedaudz sasteidzināti, kā arī superļaunā un spēcīgā organizācija ‘’United Order’’ tāda nemaz nešķta.
